
Hanks his next role - astronaut and commander Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - was his first time reuniting with Ron Howard. The performances in the film and Kevin Bacon's performance were generally appreciated by critics. The film also garnered nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice actor for Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). One year later, Hanks made his directorial debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) that chronicles the rise and fall of a 60s-era music group. He also took on the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most experts agree that Hanks performance earned him a spot among the top romantic-comedy stars his generation.
